Marty
Marty has spent decades searching for that place where a sense of carelessness can meet art. His work moves between bold abstraction, raw, expressive figuration, and just downright fun — faces caught mid-thought, fields of color layered until expression becomes less deliberate, marks that beckon to be discovered.
He works intuitively, letting each piece tell him what it wants to become, and returns again and again to texture, line, and the unexpected gesture. Whether in paint, ink, or three dimensions, the aim is the same: to make something honest — something that stops you for a moment and asks you to look a little longer.
At his core he’s just a man who’s worked in multiple industries, white- and blue-collar alike. Regardless of which “collar” he wore, what he learned was that he was not his job — life came after the job. That was where he yearned to be creative. It began with a foray into poetry (I Wanna Paint being an early harbinger of what was to come), and then into drawing and painting. He’s comfortable with mistakes, knowing that they can lead to very interesting shapes and color combinations, as well as finished pieces that bear no resemblance to their original design. He doesn’t aim for perfection, only something that someone finds interesting. He’s been a journeyman in all his differing careers. He still considers himself a journeyman.

Anne
Anne's work is grounded in a love of the everyday made luminous. Her still lifes, portraits, and nature studies carry a warmth and stillness — light falling across fruit, a face turned gently inward, a sunlit flower, or a wind-swept beach — are approached with both restraint and joy.
There is a patience in the paintings that invites you to slow down and simply notice. Anne's paintings show her endless curiosity about how a familiar subject can be seen anew.
Each piece feels like a small act of attention — generous, unhurried, and quietly alive.
Anne is a self-taught artist who has been painting for 20 years. She lives in Durham with her artist husband, Marty, and their pooch, Gracie.
